My oh my

The fire still is about a city away. School was canceled today because air quality was judged as "very unhealthy", courtesy of fires. We will still lose some office hours, to make up for the lost day, but this was still a cause for rejoicing by about everyone else. Not me. The teachers are complaining that their schedules have been messed up and that now we'll have to rearrange all the tests... I'll probably get all three tests (two were supposed to be today, one was scheduled for Monday) on Monday, if they haven't already canceled school on Monday.

ugh

I found out today that the same man here (http://www.newsday.com/news/local/ny-lirape1026,0,2478675.story) Taught me 8th grade history. frankly, it's more than disturbing. Oh, well. he was a pretty weird teacher anyway.

AARGH! RUN!

Apparently I live uncomfortably close to one of these fires. It's really a bit too smoky for comfort. My second period teacher distributed face masks, and I have taken mine and switched out tissues inside the face masks to keep from having to throw mine away (currently I don't have any others). They may or may not cancel school tomorrow...

People are trying to get out of the north side of town. I live on the south side of the town, though, so for now there isn't anything too bad. Yet.

Stuff.

So I have some stuff to say.
  1. Soccer game today: we lost 2-1, but we won in spirit. And also, IF we had all our players, we would have won the game. 3 players quit near the beginning of the season, and then for today's game, 4 people didn't come. One was on an exchange trip in China for school, one was involved in the crew of her school's fall drama and couldn't make it, and I have no idea why the other two didn't come. But here's how it went. At the start of the game: 7 players, 1 goalie. During the second half of the game, one of our players does something to her toe or something, and can't kick or run or anything, and she has to be taken off the field. At the end of the game: 6 players, 1 goalie. So assuming we had all our players, we would have won.
  2. Geometry is stupid. We have a stupid test! I know, I voted for Algebra 1 on the poll, except (I said this before, didn't I?), being the nerd I am, I'm in the optional geometry class my math teacher and the boys' math teacher offered. And we have a stupid freaking geometry test on Thursday. And on Friday too. But at least I have a good geometry partner :D (*wink wink nudge nudge*)
  3. ARGH I HAVE A PUBLICATIONS DEADLINE COMING UP!!!! Which means a few things. A) I have to write a few articles, B) This coming week (minus Monday) will have to be spent editing articles and formatting DURING MY LUNCH PERIOD. Which means I can't stare at my geometry partner. I hate deadline weeks... Well, at least my yearbook page is done...
  4. My final cross-country meet is next Tuesday with all the schools. I think we might be able to take first place this year, instead of taking second after a 3-way tie (like last year).
  5. I had something else... But I forget. Maybe if I keep typing random stuff I'll think it up... Hmmm... Nope. Not coming up. Maybe I'll think of it some other-- OMG I JUST REMEMBERED!!! So. My best friend (well, one of my BFF's) got tickets to see the Jonas Brothers IN CONCERT!!! UGH!!! Lucky buttface. And all the tix are sold out, and same with Hannah Montana, and no one else is in concert. Linkin Park isn't on tour, and Avril is just finishing her tour in ATLANTA, GEORGIA. Like I can totally fly across the country on a weeknight to see Avril. UGH!
So that's it. I'll post again when something interesting happens.

OOH I just remembered I have a Halloween dance party to go to on the 27th... and then I have the school Halloween dance on Halloween. Duh. YAY!!!

Okey. Done.

blah

I. Hate. Algebra. With a passion. WAIT NO!!!! I hate algebra ardently. Thats a word from G&T class that we're supposed to use in real life. Yay me. I get a word point.

Anyway, back to algebra.

I have a really bad teacher.....she explains it terribly. Right now we're on chapter three and she keeps forgetting to mention little rules.....so my older sister who took Algebra for two years (8th and 9th) has to point them out for me. Right now my average is a 79. AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never EVER gotten a C before. And if I don't get up to a B i get kicked out of Algebra and get put in the normal 8th grade math, pre-algebra. There's a test on Monday, so all weekend I'm studying for math. Except for right now, because my mom decided that G&T homework is important too.

We only have 40 minutes to take the test, and that's one thing that really kills me. I always finish RIGHT before the bell rings, so I don't have time to go back and check my work. If anyone has any tips about shortcuts in Algebra to help make me finish quicker, please share.

*sigh* OK, back to writing the movie review.

P.S. Has anyone read the story "The Most Dangerous Game"?

Hmmm...

YAY PEOPLE POSTED!!! Of course, it is the normal people... but still!

So. School. Homework isn't TOO bad, since the teachers know we're busy with shadowing and applying to schools, but we still have tests and quizzes... BLEH. And my math teacher and the guys' math teacher offered a geometry course at 7:30 in the morning which, since I'm such a nerd, I go to.

But it's kinda cool. And my geo. partner is cool. Peter. He's cool and smart and *giggle* hott. And (sorry GUYS and you other non-boy-obsessed people) I think he kinda likes me cuz he keeps touching my arm or brushing his leg on mine (which, I know, sounds kinda wrong...) and stuff. Oh, and he's my pencil buddy. Peter made that up. Not me. He never brings a pencil to geometry, so I always lend him a pencil so now he calls me his pencil buddy. And he finds my pencil incredibly amazing (he's easily amused) cuz it's a shaky pencil, which means you shake it for the lead to come out. And yeah.

What else? Oh yeah, I shadowed a high school today. It was my second shadow, and I seriously need to start writing my high school application essay(s). I have to look back at the topic and see what I'm supposed to write about. But I'll do that tomorrow after my piano lesson. I'm busy watching the new season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent now, but I don't like CI as much as SVU (Special Victims Unit).

GAH. My mom is being weird. She says I'm typing too loudly.

No one interesting is on AIM now! Then again, it is like almost 11 here in San Francisco... But I still have 18/98 people signed on so YAY!

Mmkay, I think I'm done for now.

NO I'M NOT! Okay, sports update:
1. Cross country: 1st meet- 2nd place, 2nd meet- 1st place, 3rd meet- 1st place (surprisingly, we beat the two HARDEST schools in the league!). And we have a meet next Wednesday. And we're gonna win. Our 6th graders are crazy fast. Seriously. The fastest one is always in the top 5. I'm not sure which place she got in the 1st meet, but in the 2nd meet she got 1st and at the 3rd one she got 2nd. CRAZY fast.
2. Soccer: 2-0-1. We tied the 1st game 1-1, won the 2nd game 4-0, and won the 3rd 3-1. We have a game on Saturday at 3:00 (horrible time, I know) and I'm hoping we'll win. But I think we're good. We haven't been playing with ANY subs at the last two games cuz people quit and some people can't make it to games, so we have to play the entire game. Unless Celia can make it... Then we'll sit one person out at a time. But yeah.

Okay, NOW I'm done. So, recap: okay homework load, hott geometry partner crushing on me (possibly), hott geometry pencil buddy partner thing, high school shadowing (which is actually really fun, especially since I get to see all these people who used to go to my school), and xc/soccer. Yep. Okey dokey pokey artichokey.

xoxo,
KC

P.S. Sorry this is super long.

meh..

Steph here.

back from watching reality shows and eating tons of candy nerds ((my drug of choice))

i hate school.

i'm gonna have pics of my lame, boring, catholic school tomorrow.

right now i'll post one from last week.

it's my friend, derreck, eating something nasty looking. i just think it's funny..

oh, you have every right to make fun of our uniforms.

Long Overdue, and Pictures

Hi All, Nick Here.
Man, I meant to use this more often while In school. I've been busy with sophmore things and Stage crew (for the fall play-The Diary of Anne Frank (I didn't get a part in the 12-person cast)). Please excuse all of the pictures here. I have first period Digital Photography, and i feel like showing off some of my work. I have chemistry this year, and despite it supposedly being the "hardest science course", it's remarkably easy. Same with Global History, which was my worst class last year (bad teacher, I suppose).

School is good, I guess.

I'm on facebook now. Search for "Nick Pitman" in the "Garden City Senior High School" network.

And now, some pictures:
Picture #1 (Top)-the rare sight of an empty hallway.
Picture #2-Garden City High School in all of it's first-period-7-in-the-morning glory.

Picture #3-The Graffiti'd walls of the basement, where we stage crew-ers do our thing.

Picture #4-The reason why i bring my own lunch.

Picture #5-I think this picture just looks cool.

Picture #6-This kinda just strikes me as a "defining picture" of Garden City. The street that runs through nearly the entire town ends and branches out right at that building, so people see it every day. I always thought it just looked nice.

Picture #7-Ballin!
